On Friday May 23rd Syracuse’s Singer Songwriter, Jamie Notarthomas, will perform his 16th annual tribute to the music of Bob Dylan, in recognition of Dylan’s 67th birthday. Last year’s event at the Palace Theatre was truly a magical event. It included some of the area’s best instrumentalists and also legendary Grammy Award Winning drummer Steve Mitchell. Notarthomas acknowledges that “Out of well over 4000 shows I have performed, this was one of the best musical nights of my career. We played songs from every album Bob released, and crescendoed to a finale of 15 musicians on stage performing ‘Rainy Day Women,’ complete with Tuba and Slide Trombone. Everyone on stage and in the audience was singing with a smile on their face.”
Up until now these shows have been a
marathon performance where Notarthomas sang every
song without a break, but this year he will make room for some other singers
from the area, such as Gary Frenay and Arty Lenin,
who will showcase the Byrds versions of Dylan tunes,
like only they and the Byrds can do. Ashley Cox and
Dusty Pascal will also sing. Instrumentalists include Curtis Waterman on harp,
Joe Davoli on the fiddle, Tom Witkowsky
on keyboards and horns, and more, such as Steve Mitchell, who has toured with
Van Morrison, Phil Lesh and Mose
Allison, to name a few. And, once again, it will be held at the Palace Theatre,
